This is the beginning of a post board where people can see my work and please to make comments whenever possible.
I have been doing a lot of art which I would like to display here. Any comments you add to the art
will give me ideas or instruction. Everyone is encouraged to write, particularly stories you cane make up out of the pictures. Wattshen the idea for this assignment came up I was intrigued - but not tempted for myself! Are you familiar with an article by Samul Scudder called "Know Your Fish”? I used to hand it our to my graduate students because it was about the power of observation.
Samuel Scudder is a graduate student in biology, working with some famous biologist whose name I have forgotten. Scudder says he wants to study with the great man. The great man gives him a fish and says something like “Come back in a month and tell me what you”ve learned. Scudder studies the fish every day for a month - I think it must be preserved - and he is really tired of looking at this fish. When he returns the great man asks him few questions, some he can answer, some he can’t, and the professor says keep on observing your fish and come back next month to tell me what you’ve learned. I was thinking we might know a lot about apples by the time you two had drawn 30 apples each, but I didn’t anticipate either the different responses to the assignment or the degree of artistic interpretation! Send more! xxH. (Heidi Watts)
